The Twins Are In !!!

 

Dec 16th - The "Big House" received an early Christmas present when the "Twins" were delivered at 1400 hours on Friday. Members will undergo extensive training and equipment will need mounted prior to the "Twins" going in service.

Brother Gerhart's Final Farewell

 

Dec 9th - Firefighters from all over the east coast came to Pennsylvania on Thursday to pay their respects to Brother Jackson Gerhart. 

Brother Gerhart will be greatly missed.

Franklins Give Chief Yates A Final Ride

 

Dec 2nd - The "Big House" showed its respect for Past Fire Chief James Yates by giving him one final ride on Engine 43 on Thursday. Chief Yates passed away on Monday Nov. 29th, 2004. 

 

Brother Yates will be greatly missed.

 

  


Another Rescue By The Big House

 

Dec 2nd - Just after midnight the "Big House" was dispatched for a dwelling fire at 3469 Troon Drive. DC 47 arrived to find a single story, multi-family dwelling with fire through the roof. DC 47 quickly learned that one  resident was unaccounted for. As DC 47 set up Command, the roof collapsed and multiple explosions could be heard. Command 44 ordered Engine 43 to enter on side 2 and attempt to locate the victim. The resident was located and removed to the front yard where EMS took over. The building was then evacuated as the remaining roof trusses collapsed. A second alarm was sounded for exposures. Truck 42 set up ladder pipe operations and brought the fire under control at 0132 hours. Units were slowly released as overhaul was completed. Station 4 cleared at 0313 hours.

Big House Members Receive Awards For Rescue

 

Oct 29th - Members of the "Big House" and one Letterkenny Firefighter were honored Friday on the steps of the Franklin County Courthouse. County Commissioners presented the awards for the rescue of an elderly man from a burning building on August 1, 2004. Sadly the man succumb to his injuries a few weeks later. The "Big House" is proud of these members and would like to thank EVERYONE who assisted on this rescue.

No Sleep at the Big House

 

Sept 28th - The "Big House" lived up to its name Tuesday as crews were kept busy with eleven runs. Calls started at 0127 hours and ended at 2357 hours. Between Engine 43, Squad 41 and Truck 42 crews ran 4 auto accidents, including 1 with confinement, 1 water rescue, 3 alarm bells, 2 flooding emergencies, and 1 medical.

Two Alarm Building Fire

 

Sept 14th - At 1038 hours Tuesday morning the "Big House" was dispatched into St. Thomas township for a building fire. Units arrived to find a working fire in a 100' x 200' wooden stair manufacturing company. Command 18 requested a second alarm. T42 crew broke out the sky lights and cut a 10' x 10' hole in the metal roof. Set up PPV on side 2. Crews moved to the storage area above the fire room and found fire in the wall. Opened up the wall and used a line from E18-2 to extinguish the fire. E43 and E1-4 assisted with water supply. Station 4 units operated for 2 hours on scene.

House Fire in Fayetteville 

 

Sept 6th - Sunday night at 1815 hours Engine Co 7 came on the air with a reported house fire just up the street from their firehouse. Units were already responding as the dispatcher put out the box for the house at 15 W. Main St. Engine Co 7 reported smoke showing and Chief 7 switched units to an operations channel. E43 reverse laid 200' of 5" to the hydrant at the elementary school. Crews from Station 4 were assigned to check for extension in the adjoining apartments. Crews opened up the walls and floors finding only minor extension. One firefighter from the "Big House" was injured on the call and was transported POV to Chambersburg Hospital. Station 4 units cleared at 2032 hours.

ENGINE CREW ASSISTS ON EXTRICATION

 

AUG 13th - On Friday the 13th at 1142 hrs Eng 43 was alerted to assist Co.7 (Fayetteville FD) on an auto accident at the 2200 blk of Lincoln Way East. Co.7 units arrived to find a autos involved with one patient confined in the rear of a mini van, Eng 43's crew assisted with removing the drivers door, the "B" post and patient packaging. Eng 43 cleared the scene in just under 20 minutes.

1st DUE HOUSE FIRE WITH ENTRAPMENT

 

AUG 1st - Shortly after 2200 hrs Box 44-03 was struck for a reported house fire at an unknown address on Kennedy Drive in Presidential Heights. Eng 13-1 and Deputy Chief 47 arrived first to find a single story rancher with fire showing from a living room window on side 1, Eng 13-1's crew placed a hand line in service making entry into the living room area bringing the fire under control within 10 minutes, Eng 43 arrived and started a primary search with the thermal imaging camera and within 5 minutes located an elderly male unconscious in a bedroom the crew brought him to the front door where EMS crews were waiting and transported to Chambersburg Hospital where he was then transported by Life Lion to Baltimore Shock Trauma. Command had Squad 15 perform a secondary search which later proved negative, crews operated on the scene for about 3-1/2 hrs doing extensive salvage and overhaul. No other injuries reported.

SHED FIRE IN ST. THOMAS TWP

 

JUNE 26th - Around 0230 hrs Box 18-4 was struck for a shed fire at 593 Shields Road in St. Thomas Twp. Eng 18-1 arrived with a shed approximately 15' X 30' fully involved, Eng 43 arrived taking second due position and operated as the supply pumper with the crew under the command of Sgt 44 placing a line in service from E18-1 to knock the fire down. The box was held to Co.18, Eng 43 & Eng 1-1 for salvage & overhaul operations, Sta.4 cleared in about an hour.


ENGINE COMPANY RESPONDS TO HOUSE FIRE

 

JUNE 25th - Just before 1500 hrs Eng 43 & Eng 45 responded to a reported house fire at 5994 Molly Pitcher Highway South Box 8-3-4, units from Co.8 arrived reporting smoke showing from the roof of a 2 story house. Crews from 8 held to the fire to the attic area with no extension, Command held the box to 8, Eng 45 & Trk 17 for minor overhaul operations. Eng 45 operated on the scene for 25 min.


WORKING MOBILE HOME FIRE

 

JUNE 15th - Shortly after 0800 hrs Station 4 responded to a mobile home fire at 4417 Gary Way in Rolling Acres Mobile Home Park Box 18-4. Eng 43 arrived just behind Eng 18-1 with a double wide mobile home smoke showing and where advised of three rooms off, Sta.4 crew placed a pre-connect in service off of Eng 18-1 and made an aggressive attack bringing the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Units from  18, St4, 8 & 9 operated on the scene for approximately 1-1/2 hrs performing salvage & overhaul operations. Eng.43 cleared at 0945 hrs.
