Two Firefighters Injured

 

December 29th - Two firefighters from Co 56 were transported to a local hospital after battling a blaze in the 15000 block of LWW. Squad 41 responded at 7:27pm into Co 9's first due for the house fire. Chief 56 arrived at 15420 LWW with heavy fire showing. Due to the remote location of the home, only 1 engine went back the driveway. Remaining apparatus staged and members had to walk in. Crews from 9, 56 and 18 put a good knock on it saving most of the home and belongings. Station 4 assisted with opening up, checking the attic and hitting hot spots.  Command 9 released Squad 41 at 10:56pm.

Medical Assist?

 

December 28th - Station 4 was alerted to 421 Grant St for "medical assist".  SQ41 arrived at 0049 hours to find EMS carrying one person from the building. EMS stated the patient's arm was still in the machine and needed removed for transport with the patient. Members disassembled part of the framework and cut the conveyor belt to free the limb at 0104 hours. 


Auto Accident With Entrapment

 

December 26th - At 1735 hours Station 4 was dispatched to 2290 Molly Pitcher Hwy South for an auto accident with entrapment.  SQ41 arrived on the scene to find a passenger vehicle head on into a garbage truck with one patient heavily entrapped. Crews made quick work and had the patient extricated within 15 minutes. Station 4 units cleared the scene at 1845 hours.
 


Another Rookie

 

December 22nd - The "BIG HOUSE" would like to congratulate Probationary Firefighter Alex Dimoff on his graduation from the Arlington County Fire Academy.

Shed Fire

 

December 21st - E43 responded to 1665 New Franklin Rd at 7:19pm for a shed fire. Co 17 had a working fire upon arrival and were putting a good knock on it when the next due companies rolled in. E43 assisted with pulling some walls. Command 17 released all units at 8:07pm.


House Well Off

 

December 20th -  With T53 out of service for the next week or so, T42 responded into Co 11's first due for the house fire at 7026 McClays Mill Rd. Command 11 had a 2 story single family with fire showing. After a partial collapse on side C, Command evacuated the building. T42 arrived at 1:36pm and set up the ladder pipe on side D and operated for about 2 hours. Members assisted with a little overhaul and clean up before going in service at 4:29pm.

Big House X-mas Party

 

December 16th


Once Again

 

December 15th -  At 0552 hours Station 4 was alerted to the intersection of LWE and I-81 Northbound on ramp for an auto accident reported to be 2 vehicles head on.  SQ41 arrived on the scene and found 2 vehicles, one over the guard rail and one in the middle of the westbound lane. One patient was transported class three to a local hospital. SQ41 controlled leaks and returned to service at 0615 hours.

 


Fire in the Stairwell 

 

December 13th -  E43, T42 and E45 responded to 717 Dickeys Drive at 0011 hours for a building fire. Units arrived to find fire in the stairwell with some extension into the attic. Crews easily extinguished the fire and Command 44 held it to Station 4 and ET1. After some minor overhaul, members cleared at 0111 hours.


 One Confined

 

December 11th -  Station 4 responded for the MVA at Sunset Ave and High St. Units found a passenger car vs a truck towing a trailer. The driver of the car was confined and SQ41 made quick work of the door. EMS transported 2 people. Station 4 units cleared at 4:19pm.

 

  


Visitors Catch Working Fire

 

December 8th-9th -  Four members from Saxton Volunteer Fire Dept came down for a weekend visit and managed to catch a couple runs including a fire. E43, T42 and E45 responded into Co 11's first due for a garage fire. Units arrived at 7:52pm and found fire showing from a 50'x30' structure next to 5834 Sunset Pike. E43 assisted Co 11 advancing a line into side A while T42 opened up. Crews overhauled the first floor and removed several items from the loft before clearing at 9:11pm.

 

Saturday morning just after clearing a truck fire on I-81, SQ41 responded to 4616 Lemar Rd for smoke in the house. Co 9 units found a chimney fire. Crews operated on scene for about an hour before clearing at 8:30am.

House Fire In The Boro

 

December 5th - Co 1 and SQ41 responded for the house in the 400 block of Elm Ave. Units arrived at 1:51pm to find fire in the crawl space. E1-1 entered a narrow window to the crawl space. SQ41 advanced a line into the first floor and performed a primary search. Members worked with crews from Co 1 on an extensive overhaul before clearing at 3:41pm.

Auto Accident In The Boro

 

December 2nd - SQ41 was alerted at 1826 hours along with Co. 1 units for an auto accident at the intersection of Wayne Ave. and Stouffer Ave. Units arrived to find 3 autos partially blocking the intersection.  SQ41 assisted EMS and controlled hazards.  SQ41 returned to service at 1846 hours.
