Pickup vs Tree

 

Jan 30th -  An icy roadway caused this accident in front of 574 Siloam Rd at 6:50am. SQ41 and E43 arrived to find one truck into a tree. EMS transported one.

 

"Everyday is a Training Day", so how would you extricate a passenger from this truck?

 

    


1986 E-One in Andover Maine

 

Jan 29th -  Chief Ken Dixon sent a couple of pictures of old 43 at its new home in Andover, Maine in front of HQ Station in downtown Andover.  Included is one picture of their E4 that was moved from the Andover Station to the East Andover Sub Station to make room for E43.

MVA

 

Jan 28th -  At 0522 hours SQ41 responded to 3353 Letterkenny Rd for an auto accident.  SQ41 arrived on the scene to find one vehicle off the roadway into a tree with a patient lying beside the vehicle.  Air medical was requested to the hospital.  One patient was taken to the hospital with head injuries. The "Big House" cleared at 0548 hours.

 


Squad and Truck for the Building

 

Jan 26th -  An early morning fire in Greencastle sent SQ41 and T42 to 5 South Washington St. The 5:05am blaze occurred in a 3 story apartment building. SQ41 arrived and began venting windows on the second floor when part of the roof overhang fell on them. The "Big House" rescued a Co. 2 firefighter from under the pile of debris and assisted him to EMS. T42 set up ladder pipe operations on the A/B corner. Nine members from Station 4 were on the scene until 9:30am.

 


Back 2 Back for the Truck

 

Jan 24th - T42 responded at 1136 hours for a barn fire at 7490 Olde Scotland Rd.  T42 arrived on the scene and setup the Aerial to a silo.  T42 crew removed the silo top that was stuck in between two silos.  Sta4 cleared at 1235 hours.

 

At 1238 hours T42, E45, and E43 responded to 1712 LWE for reported odor of smoke in the building.  AC49 arrived on the scene with nothing showing from all sides.  Crews entered the building and found an HVAC unit on fire.  Crews put a quick knock on the fire and went available at 1334 hours. The "Big House" operated with a total of 11 firefighters.

2005 Awards Banquet

 

     The "Big House" held its annual awards banquet on Saturday Jan 14th. The President and Fire Chief  handed out the awards listed here but one award was missed. The award for "Furthest Distance Traveled" goes to Firefighter Troy Bingaman who traveled all the way from Iraq to attend the banquet. Now that's dedication!

Auto Accident w/Fire

 

Jan 15th - E45 and SQ41 responded to 875 LWW at 6:37pm for a MVA with fire. Found 2 autos in the intersection with fire in one engine compartment. EMS transported 1 pt. Units cleared at 7pm.


Transfer Crews Catch First Due Fire

 

Jan 14th - Crews from Co 3, 15 and 53 transferred to the "Big House" while members were attending the Annual Awards Banquet. Box 44-09 sounded at 11:40pm for the shed fire to the rear of 1354 Sollenberger Rd. E45 with Co 15, T42 with Co 53, SQ41 with Co 3, E43 and DC47 arrived to find a 30 x 15 shed well off approximately 50' from the residence. E45 made the attack and T42 checked the exposure. After a quick knock down and overhaul, units cleared at 1:14am.

One Over The Embankment

 

Jan 11th - Wet roads caused 2 MVA's Wednesday night. Crews responded to Frank and Warmsping Roads at 6:40pm. Found 2 autos in a rear end collision. EMS transported one patient. Just after backing into the "Big House", members were alerted to Siloam Road at the bridge. Units arrived at 7:37pm to found a pick up over the embankment. Station 4 responded to both calls with 10 and left 8 on station for Bingo.


No Emergency Vehicles

 

Jan 10th - West King Street between Hood and Main Streets will be closed to all traffic for approximately 4-5 weeks. Drivers should review the changed running routes:

 

44-02 and 44-03 Boxes

Right out of the firehouse, Left on Hood St, Right on Commerce St, Left on Philadelphia Ave

 

44-01, 44-06 and I-81 Boxes

Left out of the firehouse, Left on Franklin St, Left on Loudon St, Right on S. Main St(44-06)

 

Downtown Boxes

Right out of the firehouse, Right on Hood St, Left on LWW (wrong way), Right or Left on Main St


Truck, Eng, Eng, Brush then the Squad

 

Jan 9th - Drill night ended quickly when the Box sounded for 7796 Nyesville Road at 7:17pm. Chief 11 marked on scene with a two story single family dwelling well off. T42 set up ladder pipe operations on side A while E45 laid a supply line from E15-1 to E13-1. E43 set up water supply at Nyesville and Rowe Roads. A special alarm brought B44 for a possible field fire to the rear of the structure. The "Big House" responded with 19 personnel and left 4 more on station to handle the Squad which responded to an AFA. Units cleared at 10:37pm.


Fire in the Building

 

Jan 9th - Squad 41 responded to 811 Progress Rd for fire in the building. Units arrived at 3:50am to find machinery on fire inside a large commercial structure. Crews from "Big House" used a line from E1-4 to extinguish the fire. Station 4 responded with 6 and cleared at 4:56am.


Chimney Fire w/Extension

 

Jan 8th - Members were given an early morning wakeup call at 0222 hours for a chimney fire at 2191 Hafer Rd Box 7-7.  Units from Co. 7 arrived on the scene and found extension above the fireplace. Crews from the "Big House" assisted Co. 7 with extinguishment as well as salvage and overhaul. Station 4 responded with 14 firefighters and cleared the scene at 0342 hours.

 


New Preemption Red Lights

 

Jan 6th - Thanks to Hamilton Township the red lights at 875 LWW and at the intersection of LWW and Warmspring are being fitted with the preemption system. They will be completed next week, hopefully. Drivers will still need to use caution at these intersections. All the new red lights on LWE have the preemption on them but are not currently working. They should be fixed in the next month.


One On Its Roof

 

Jan 3rd - Just after midnight SQ41 and E43 responded for a MVA on I-81 south bound. AC48 arrived to find one auto on its roof at the number 14 on ramp. EMS transported one. Units cleared at 12:21am.
