16 E. King St.

3 Alarm Apartment Building Fire

 

July 31st - Station 4 got an early start to a busy day in the heat at 0645 when communications sounded the 2nd alarm for an apartment building fire at 16 E. King St. in the Boro of Shippensburg which sent T42 to the scene.  T42 arrived on the scene and was assigned ladder pipe operations on side "C".  T42, T1 and multiple Cumberland County trucks ladder piped the roof area to knock the bulk of the fire down. T42 was held by command to standby while demolition to the rear of the building was done.  T42 cleared the scene at 1329 hours.

 

5 Additional Runs For The Day

 

At 1352 hours SQ41 responded to 5007 Philadelphia Ave for a CO alarm.  Units arrived to find a malfunctioning alarm and returned to service at 1411 hours.

 

Communications alerted the 44-02 box to 3550 Carnoustie Dr. for an AFA at 1418 hour. Station 4 units arrived on the scene with nothing found. Units cleared at 1428 hours

 

E43 was dispatched at 1529 hours to I81 mile marker 21 for an auto accident. While enroute command assigned E43 to setup a landing zone for Life Lion just south of the accident on the interstate. E43 went available at 1607 hours.

 

At 1616 hours SQ41 was dispatched to the intersection of Falling Spring and Cider Press Rd for an auto accident. E43 responded with personnel. Units arrived to find one vehicle off the roadway. Station 4 units were placed in service at 1625 hours.

 

Communications once again alerted the 44-02 box at 1743 hours for an AFA.  Units arrived on the scene to find food on the stove and placed the box in service.  Units cleared at 1756 hours.

Auto vs FEMA Sign

 

July 27th - SQ41 and E43 responded at 6:32 pm for the MVA in the 2000 block of Philadelphia Ave. Units found one auto into the FEMA Disaster Relief sign that was parked on the side of the road. When asked how the car hit the sign the driver replied, "I was swatting  at a Bee."


Visit From The Governor

 

July 25th - Gov. Rendell got a tour of the "BIG HOUSE" after his meeting with Franklin County Democrats on Tuesday morning.

MVA Turns Into Pedestrian Accident

 

July 22nd - As members were walking across the median of I-81at 1:30am to check out a single vehicle accident, they witnessed the driver of the auto being struck by a tractor trailer. SQ41 had stopped to check for injuries while E43 proceeded to exit 17 to turn around and block southbound traffic. Crews quickly shut down the interstate and assisted EMS with packaging the priority 1 patient. Units were released by Command 7 at 2:05am.


Another Grant

 

July 21st - Station 4 got word today that we will be receiving $12,653.87 in grant money from PEMA. These funds will be used to upgrade the departments radio system.

Ten Runs Including a Shed Fire

 

July 18th - As severe thunderstorms rolled into the area, members kept a close eye on Radar. A busy evening started 16:58pm with station 4 being dispatched to 530 Bengate Rd. for a shed fire.  E43 and T42 arrived on the scene with smoke showing from a small storage shed.  E43's crew extinguished the fire within 10 minutes. E43, T42, and E8-1 were held for overhaul operations. Crews cleared the scene at 17:39pm.

Early Morning House Fire

 

July 16th - At 0432 T42 was dispatched on the 5-01 box to Orchard Rd. exact address unknown for a house fire. Units arrived at 5217 Orchard Rd. with a working fire.  T42 arrived and assisted with overhaul. E43 was dispatched on the working fire dispatch and was assigned RIT operations. Station 4 units cleared the scene at 0556.

 


Midnight Confinement

 

July 14th - Units were responding to a MVA in the 2800 block of LWW just after midnight when Communications advised they got a second call reporting entrapment. SQ41 and C46 arrived to find a pick up had taken out 2 telephone poles and confined the driver. Members made quick work of the door and turned the patient over to EMS.

 

  


What's My Address

 

July 12th - An excited home owner called 911 and stated their kitchen was on fire. The caller gave the address as 721 E. Washington St. which sent Co 1 and SQ41 on the box. All units were in the 600 and 700 block when the ambulance crew advised they had been flagged down in front of 271 E. Washington St. for a reported kitchen fire. As units changed direction, the ambulance crew found a small electrical fire with minor extension into the wall which was quickly knocked with a dry chem. Command 1 held 1 and 1 at 12:36pm.

One In The Cornfield

 

July 11th - Station 4 was alerted at 4:57pm along with Co. 7 to I-81 SB just north of exit 17 for an auto accident reported one vehicle off the side of the road in a cornfield with a possible grass fire.  Units arrived to find an SUV in the cornfield with no fire.  E43 crew cribbed the vehicle and assisted EMS with loading the patient. Crews went in service at 5:20pm

 


Confinement In The Boro

 

July 11th - At 1134 SQ41 was dispatched to 1080 Wayne Ave. to assist E1-1 on an auto accident with confinement. While enroute the patient was extricated. SQ41's crew assisted with debris cleanup, and cleared at 1150.

 


Miracles Do Happen

 

July 10th - Members woke this morning to find King St was FINALLY being paved. The road was closed Jan 10th of this year then was reopened a month later. It was left with several large pot holes. Crews and apparatus have taken a beating while driving on King St.


Another One Overturned On The I

 

July 9th - E43 and SQ41 were once again alerted at 0657 hours to Interstate 81northbound MM 12.5 along with units from Co. 8, 17, and 1 for an auto accident reported one vehicle overturned with entrapment.  Units arrived on the scene and confirmed one vehicle overturned with one patient confined.  Station 4 crews assisted with patient extrication and cleared the scene at 0731.

 


One Overturned on I-81

 

July 8th - At 1620 hours Station 4 was alerted to MM 13 southbound on Interstate 81 for an auto accident with a vehicle overturned.  E45 arrived to find one passenger vehicle approximately 50ft off the side of the road overturned. The vehicle was hidden from passing traffic by a downed tree. After investigating crews found one patient had been partially ejected from the vehicle.  Upon speaking with the patient crews learned that the accident actually occurred around 0700 hours. One patient was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Station 4 was assisted by Co. 8, E3-1, Amb 1-9, and Medic 100.

 


Midnight Flame

 

July 3rd - At 0021 Station 4 was alerted to 1052 W. Papermill Road for a vehicle fire.  E45 arrived to find a working fire in the bed of a pickup truck.  E45 crew was able to contain the fire to the bed of truck and make a quick knock on the fire. A quick overhaul was completed; E45, and SQ41 returned to service at 0107 with 13 personnel.

 


Oven Fire With Extension

 

July 1st - Box 44-09 was sounded at 2:42pm for fire in the apartment building. C46 arrived at 1113 Park Circle West with a two story middle of the row with light smoke showing. Crews found an oven fire that had extended into the cabinets. The fire was knocked with a dry chem and Command 44 held it to Station 4. Members did a quick overhaul and went in service. E45, T42 and E43 cleared at 3:04pm


M & S Cycles

 

July 1st - M & S Cycles held its annual open house from 9am-noon on Saturday. Station 4 set up a safety display including our smoke trailer. Apparatus from Station 4, Co 1 and Medic 1 along with Life Lion were on hand for kids and adults to check out. Hundreds of riders brought their bikes in to show off.
