Busy Day

 

October 29th - Members got an early start to the day with communications alerting the 17-3 box at 0927 hours for a dwelling fire at 6154 Sheller Rd. units arrived on the scene with a house completely involved. C17 advised all units to operate in a defensive mode.  E45 was assigned water supply and sent manpower to the scene to assist other units with fire extinguishment.  Station 4 cleared the fire at 1239 hours. 

 

While E45 was on the dwelling fire, SQ41 was alerted at 1126 hours to 1915 Ashley Dr. for a dumpster fire with extension into a building. Units arrived on the scene to find the fire out and no extension to the building. SQ41 cleared at 1131 hours.

 

Members received a short break for lunch before being special requested by Hazmat 28 at 1358 hours to the area of 275 Sollenberger Rd. for 2 utility poles sheared off across the roadway with a transformer leaking. SQ41 arrived on the scene and controlled the leaking transformer, and awaited the arrival of the power company. SQ41 returned available at 1438 hours.

 

As SQ41 was parking in the station, communications alerted the 44-05 box at 1450 hours for a utility pole down with wires in the area of Sunnyway Foods on Warmspring Rd. E45 arrived in the area and investigated; nothing was found and E45 went available at 1457 hours.

 

At 1601 hours communications sounded box 44-01 for an electrical fire inside a building at 1315 LWE. Sgt. 44 and E7-2 arrived on the scene with nothing showing.  Sgt. 44 advised Capt. 44 that a deep fryer had caught fire but the fire was out.  At 1606 hours Capt. 44 held E7-2 and placed the rest of the box in service.

Vehicle Fire

 

October 24th - Station 4 was dispatched at 4:01pm for the vehicle fire. Communications advised units should have pick up truck fully involved. E45 on scene to find a passenger car with fire in the engine compartment. Crews had the fire out and were in service at 4:30pm.

Building Fire

 

October 23rd - At 1758 hours Station 4 units were dispatched on the 7-5 box to 11 Mont Alto Rd for reported smoke coming from a building.  Co. 7 units arrived on the scene with nothing showing; communications then advised responding units the corrected address was going to be in the area of Guilford Hills Elementary School.  At 1803 hours Command 7 placed the 7-5 box in service and requested the 7-1 box be filled.  Units arrived on the scene at 2106 Lincoln Way East with smoke showing.  T42 arrived and positioned on the A/B corner of the building and setup positive pressure ventilation on side A. T42's crew was also assigned with opening the roof.  E45 staged across the street and sent manpower to the scene to assist with the fire extinguishment.  E43 also staged across the street and sent manpower to the scene to assist with salvage and overhaul. Station 4 units cleared the scene at 1857 hours.


Stayin' Busy

 

October 17th - Crews got a few hours of sleep before being alerted to Siloam Rd and Letterkenny Rd for the accident with entrapment. Units arrived at 10:46am to find a passenger car and a box truck in a T-bone collision. Had one person pinned in the passengers seat. SQ41 extricated that person in 7 minutes but they would later succumb to their injuries. While trying to package the driver, one EMT was bitten by a dog that was sitting on the driver's lap. The driver was air lifted from the hospital to a trauma center. Station 4 cleared at 11:15am.

 

Members responded to 3 more runs including a box alarm to 1550 Walker Rd for smoke in the house. Found a defective fireplace and cleared at 12:24pm.

 


Busy 24 Hours

 

October 16th - 17th - After running 7 calls during the day then drilling on ladders and ventilation for 3 hours Monday night, members responded to call number 8 for a reported fire on the second floor of an occupied hotel. Co 1 and T42 arrived at 11:50 pm and found trash outside the first floor bar.

 

Number 9 was your average medical local, at least that's what the call came out as. UT44 arrived shortly after midnight at 1216 Arbor Ridge to find a person had fallen over a 10' embankment into a stream. SGT 44 requested SQ41 for the rescue equipment. Crews set up a simple haul system using the tow hooks on UT44 and a stokes basket. The pt was turned over to EMS by 1am.

 

At 2:17am, run 10 was dispatched for the MVA on I-81 at the mm14 on ramp. SQ41 found one vehicle overturned with 1 minor injury. Units cleared at 2:31am.

 

  


Confinement In The Boro

 

October 15th - At 0755 hours SQ41 was alerted with Co. 1 units to Grant St. for an auto overturned with entrapment. Units arrived on the scene with one auto overturned and one patient confined inside, SQ41 crew stabilized the vehicle and assisted EMS with extricating the patient through the passenger side.  Units returned to service at 0809.


Truck 42 First In

 

October 14th - T42, E45 and E1-4 responded on the 7-4 box for the barn fire at 580 Wilkson Ln. Units arrived at 2:21pm to find a 100' x 30' structure with fire showing. T42 and E7-2 advanced a line into side A. Found a burn victim just outside the building and fire in the A/B corner and roof trusses. Put a good knock on it from inside but had to use a bobcat to remove several round bales. E45 and E1-4's crews assisted with wetting down material as it was removed. Station 4 cleared at 4:36pm.

Auto vs Tractor Trailer

 

October 10th - Just after midnight units from Station 4 and Co 8 responded to I-81 NB at mm 11.5 for the MVA with entrapment. Crews arrived to find a passenger car had crossed from the south bound lane into the north bound lane and went head on into a tractor trailer. The driver was not trapped and was quickly removed from the vehicle. E45 set up a landing zone on the interstate while SQ41 and Co 8 handled the gas leaking from the auto. Station 4 cleared at 1:17am.

 

  


Accident Update

 

October 9th - The victim of the MVA listed Oct 6th has passed away from injuries sustained in the accident.


Another Entrapment

 

October 6th - Shortly after clearing an emergency public service, Station 4 was alerted for the MVA on LWE at I-81. First reports to Communications at 11:45am were of a dump truck vs an auto with everyone out walking around. Just prior to SQ41's arrival a second call came in advising a class 1 pt with entrapment. Units found a flat bed truck into the passenger's side of an auto pushing it into the guard rail and one pinned. Station 4 members and one ride along quickly removed 2 doors and a B-post. Command 44 had air medical land at the hospital. E7-1 checked for hazards then responded to Station 4's second MVA on I-81 at mm18. Units found one pick up off the highway in a ditch with no injuries. Both incidents were cleared by 12:30pm.

 


Auto Accident One Heavily Entrapped

 

October 3rd - Station 4 units along with Co. 8 were alerted at 1228 hours to I-81 mile marker 13 southbound for an auto accident with entrapment.  Units arrived on the scene to find a tractor trailer into the back of a pickup truck hauling a horse trailer and one patient heavily entrapped inside the pickup truck. Crews from SQ41 and 8 both went to work on removing the drivers door along with a roof removal. Air medical was requested by C46 and a landing zone was setup on the interstate.  Units cleared the scene at 1330 hours.
