Overnight MVA's

 

December 30th and 31st -  Crews responded to a few MVA's overnight and into the morning. A 10:54pm single car accident in the 1400 block of LWE sent 1 person to the hospital. SQ41 and E43 arrived to find a passenger car into a utility pole. A police cruiser sitting on the scene of a MVA on I-81 was struck by another vehicle at 5:42am. SQ41 and E43 arrived to find 1 person confined in a pick up truck. Members made quick work of the door and assisted EMS with loading the pt. I-81 was shut down for a few hours. One person escaped serious injury when the pick up they were driving hit two poles in the area of LWE and Quarry Rd. Both poles just missed crushing the driver. SQ41 and E43 worked to shut off the vehicle as it continued to run with the keys removed. Units returned to service at 7:23am

MVA

 

December 27th -  Members were alerted for a MVA with a cardiac arrest on scene. Co 1 and SQ41 arrived to find a pick up sitting on top of a high voltage junction box. Crews identified the electrical hazard and began working on the cardiac arrest. Units returned to service at 4:41pm.


Christmas Eve Cut Job

 

December 24th -  SQ41 extricated 2 people around 7:45pm from this MVA at the intersection of Stouffer Ave and Cumberland Ave. Units arrived to find a pick up vs a passenger car. The car slide off the road knocked over an electrical junction box and smashed into a tree. Three people were confined in the vehicle. SQ41's crew was forced to extricate the occupants out the passenger's side due to live electrical lines just inches from the driver's door. Members quickly removed the rear door to free one person then carefully cut the front door out from around the tree to free a second person. Once the utility crew shut power off to the junction box the driver was able to step out. SQ41 returned to service at 8:29pm.

 


Box Alarm

 

December 20th -  Units were alerted for the structure fire at 468 Mower Rd. E43 and E7-2 arrived to find smoke showing from a two story end of the row townhouse. Found fire under the stove. E43 and T42 cleared at 5:26pm.


More Runs From The 18th

 

December 18th -  While E43 and T42 were handling the second fire of the day, SQ41 responded to 8254 LWE for another reported house fire. Co 7 had a small fire and held it to Co 7 and T17. SQ41 returned to service at 1:37pm. Members were alerted for the MVA in the 2400 block of Grand Point Rd around 10:30pm. SQ41 and E43 arrived to find one auto on its side with a pole down. EMS transported one person.

 

  


2 First Due House Fires

 

December 18th -  Station 4 responded to 2 first due house fires that resulted in 1 firefighter being injured and 2 pets rescued. The first house was located at 89 Cherry Ave. Units arrived to find fire showing from the first and second floors. As members entered they found the floor to be weak and after hitting the fire they exited the building. Crews entered the basement through an exterior stairwell and were able to make a hit on the fire. An additional line was advanced to the second floor from a ladder. One firefighter was injured after falling from a ladder. His injuries were not serious. Units from CO 1, 5, 7, 8, 14, 17, 18 and 53 assisted Station 4 in freezing temperatures battling this blaze. The fire was marked under control in about an hour but extensive overhaul kept units on scene until 6:11am. E43 responded for the power line down and shut down Letterkenny Road for several hours around 9am. Then another first due fire was reported next to 1226 Courtney Drive. E43 and T42 arrived at 12:23pm to find a working fire in the lower level of 1242 Courtney Drive. E43 advanced 1 line to the fire and 1 line to the floor above. Crews were able to bring this fire under control in about 15 minutes. Members removed 1 dog and 1 cat. Crews from 11, 13, 14, 15 and 53 assisted Station 4 with opening up and hitting hot spots. Station 4 cleared at 2pm.

Chimney Fires

 

December 17th -  T42 assisted Co 7 at 33 Mount Union Rd with a chimney fire at 10:42am. An AFA at 201 Franklin Farm Lane at 1:20pm had T42 out again along with E43. SQ41ended the day with another chimney fire at 14385 McCalmont Rd around 8pm.

MVA

 

December 16th -  This MVA in the 1900 block of Crottlestown Rd was the first of seven runs for the day. Two people were injured when their SUV left the road and hit a tree. SQ41 and E43 responded just after 2am. A 6:19am AFA sent SQ41 to 7062 LWE upon returning to quarters E43 went for the wires down in front of 87 Minnich Rd. A chimney fire at 4877 Edenville Rd at 9:42am would bring E43, E45 and T42 out in the sleet and freezing ran. SQ41 assisted Co 1 with natural gas leak investigation inside 342 High St around 12:30pm. E43 and T42 had back to back box alarms into Co 18's area for possible dwelling fires, one at 5:32pm then again at 6:11pm. Crews found electrical wires down on the house at 9568 Circle Drive and a chimney fire at 2306 Community Center Drive.


MVA

 

December 12th -  One person was injured in this 2 car accident next to 4052 Philadelphia Ave. SQ41 cleared at 3:04pm


Transfer

 

December 10th -  E45 left at 7am to transfer to Cumberland County Co 46 while members attended the funeral of their Fire Chief.

Early Morning Car Fire

 

December 9th -  Members were awakened at 0507 for a possible barn fire "across from" 2050 Sollenberger Rd. HQ received a call back advising possible car fire. Duty 44 held the assignment for further investigation. POV member on scene confirmed a passenger car well involved. Duty 44 held Sta4 and ET14. E43 arrived to find a mini-van fully engulfed with another vehicle 3 feet away. Crews advanced the front bumper line and made a quick knock on the mini-van. After overhauling the mini-van Sta4 went available. 

 


Two Pinned on the Bridge

 

December 7th -  After responding to an auto fire at 4:42am, a chimney fire at 6:30am and an AFA at noon,  members responded to the 300 block of Wayne Ave in Chambersburg. Co 1 arrived to find 2 SUV's head-on with 1 person trapped. At 10:30pm, SQ41 arrived and quickly extricated one driver. That same SUV was pushed against the guard rail just a few feet away from a steep embankment. The passenger was confined and had to be extricated. SQ41 removed the roof then cut the back of the seat off and removed the patient out the rear of the SUV. SQ41 remained on scene for lighting and returned to service at 11:40pm.

 

Just prior to 8pm, Duty 44 came upon an incident on I-81 in Station 4's area. An individual left a vehicle as it traveled down the highway at 65mph. After requesting air medical, SGT 44 assisted EMS with loading the pt. It is not clear how or why the patient exited the vehicle.

 


MVA with Entrapment then Cardiac Arrest

 

December 3rd -  SQ41 was alerted at  11:23am to assist Co 7 with a MVA. Co 7 was on the scene with 1 auto on its roof and 1 person trapped in the 5600 block of LWE. SQ7 extricated the pt and SQ41 assisted with hazards. While returning to the station, SQ41 responded to 1599 Brechbill Rd for a Cardiac Arrest.

 


Box Alarm and MVA

 

December 2nd -  T42 responded to a Box Alarm in Co 7's first due at 12:21pm. Units arrived at 5642 LWE with normal conditions. T42 assisted with checking the interior and roof. Crews found the source to be a furnace malfunction. At 3:36pm, SQ41 and E43 were alerted for the MVA at 695 Kohler Rd. Members found 3 vehicles involved.


Cardiac Arrest then MVA with Entrapment

 

December 1st -  Station 4 responded in opposite directions simultaneously at 1:36pm Saturday. SQ41 headed to 3420 Edenville Rd for a cardiac arrest and E43 responded with Co 7 on the MVA with entrapment at the intersection of Black Gap and White Church Roads. SQ7 handled the extrication. E43 stood by to set up a Landing Zone and members assisted with pt removal. Air medical was sent to the Hospital and E43 returned to service. T42 ended the day with a Box Alarm to Shippensburg University for smoke in the building at 7:16pm.
