Barn Fire

 

Jan 30th - At 11:05pm members responded to 1568 Wilkson Ln for a reported barn fire. Co. 7 units arrived on the scene with a working fire. C46 arrived and advised of a 25' X 25' detached garage, with no extension. E45 arrived on the scene complete the split lay to the hydrant, and sent a crew to the scene. Co. 7 units made quick work of the fire. E45's crew assisted with overhaul and wet down. Station 4 returned to service at 1:19am


One Pinned and One Kitchen

 

Jan 29th - Station 4 responded to 3360 Edenville Rd for the auto accident. SQ41 arrived at 8:42am with a van vs passenger car. Members found one person trapped. Command 44 requested a helicopter to the hospital and an operations channel. After a full roof removal, the pt was turned over to EMS. Just 30 minutes later, SQ41 responded with Co 1 to 170 D Menno Village for the appliance fire. Units found smoke showing. Had a small fire in the kitchen with no extension.

 

  


Visitors Enjoy Busy Day

 

Jan 26th -  Two "ride alongs" caught 4 Box Alarms, a Cardiac Arrest and CO Alarm on Friday. T42 started the day with a box to Shippensburg University at 7:22am. SQ41 and E45 were next with a CO alarm at 2004 Philadelphia Ave at 8:12am. E45 and T42 continued the runs with another box to 3720 Sycamore Grove Rd at 9:11am. Members got a break until 2:02pm when they responded to 2075 Scotland Ave for a cardiac arrest. At 3:38pm, E45, T42 and E43 responded to 302 Sollenberger Rd for the box alarm. Crews found a malfunctioning furnace with over 100ppm of CO in the house. Units remained on scene for 45 minutes ventilating before going in service. Members were given another break for supper before SQ41 was dispatched on another box alarm at 8:31pm to 3660 Mountain Rd in Peters Township for a chimney fire with extension.  Crews assisted Co. 9, 18, 56, and 3 with opening the ceiling and walls to check for extension. SQ41 returned to service at 11:06pm.

Bicyclist Struck

 

Jan 25th -  Sq41 was dispatched for the pedestrian struck at 11:01am on Olde Scotland Rd. Arrived on scene to find a bicyclist had been struck. Crews removed a portion of the fence in order to better access the patient. Crews set up a landing zone for Stat Med and cleared at 11:56am.

 

  


Cold Weather Brings Chimney Fires

 

Jan 24th -  E45 and T42 started the day at 5:47am with a chimney fire at 5535 Mountain Rd. At 4:40pm E45, T42 and E43 had another chimney fire at 879 Forest Rd. Both fires were contained to the flue and units were able to clear in about an hour.

 

  

MVA on I-81

 

Jan 22nd -  Co 8 and Station 4 had an auto overturned in the north bound lane of I-81 around the 12.5 mile marker at 0044 hours. Reported with entrapment but  crews were able to remove the pt out a door.

 

Box Alarm

 

Jan 22nd -  E45 and T42 responded for smoke in the building at 1410 Doron Dr. Found a defective heating unit. Units cleared at 0658 hours.

5 Transfer, 5 Ejected

 

Jan 21st -  Around 4:30pm 5 members from Station 4 headed south to cover Engine Co. 3 while they attended their annual awards banquet. Members responded to 2 calls one being a fatal vehicle accident. Co. 3 units were dispatched around midnight to the 15000 block of the Williamsport Pike for an auto accident with ejection.  Headquarters advised of 5 possible patients 2 of which were possibly class 4.  SQ3 (Co. 8 personnel) arrived on the scene with one vehicle off the roadway and numerous patients lying in the roadway.  E3-2 (station 4 personnel) arrived on scene and assisted with triaging patients as well as setup a landing zone for Stat. Medivac. E3-2 cleared the scene around 1:15am


One into a House and One on its Roof

 

Jan 20th - Co 1 units were dispatched to 2 accidents in the 400 block of E. Queen St and the 500 block of LWE. E1-2 found it to be the same accident but one of the vehicles had slid 200' on its roof after pushing an SUV into a house. Command 1 special requested SQ41 at 9:25pm. SQ41 checked the SUV and the house for structural stability then cleared at 10:05pm.


Auto On Its Side

 

Jan 18th - SQ41 and E43 were on the scene of this MVA in the 1500 block of Johnson Rd. EMS transported one pt. Units cleared at 7:21pm.

Auto Fire

 

Jan 18th - Station 4 was dispatched at 2301hours to I-81exit 14 northbound on ramp for an auto fire.  C46 arrived on the scene with a working fire. E45 arrived on the scene and assisted Co. 8 and 17 units with extinguishing the fire. Station 4 units returned to service at 2322 hours.

 


RIT Assignment

 

Jan 15th - SQ41 was dispatched at 1210 hours to assist on the building fire at 14 E. Baltimore St in the boro of Greencastle.  SQ41 was assigned RIT. SQ41's crew setup to the rear of Co. 3's engine, and was placed in service at 1246 hours.

 

 


One On Its Side

 

Jan 14th - SQ41 and E43 had a pick up on its side still in gear and running in the 3100 block of Scotland Rd at 3:18pm. Members climbed in, shut it off and went in service.


Awards Banquet

 

Jan 13th - The Franklin Fire Company held its annual awards banquet to honor all the members hard work for the year of 2006. Awards were given to several people who put in some extra time and effort in support of the company. A special award was given to Richard "Zeek" Landis for his 30 years of dedicated service as Treasurer.

Door Pop on LWE

 

Jan 12th - Command 1 special requested SQ41 to assist on a MVA at LWE and I-81. Units had a passenger car into the side of a pick up truck and need a door removed. SQ41 arrived at 5:33pm, removed the door from the truck, helped package the pt, wrapped up and cleared at 5:53pm.

 


5 Vehicles, 1 Chief's Buggy, 2 Injuries, 1 Ejected

 

Jan 10th - A morning snow shower caused several accidents along I-81 between mile markers 17 and 21. The first incident was dispatched at 4:28am for a tractor trailer vs a passenger car with possible entrapment. Units arrived at mm 21 with negative entrapment. DC7 held SQ7 and SQ15.  As Station 4 units were returning, they found I-81 traffic stopped at mm19. C46 proceeded south in the median and found tractor trailers were unable to make it across the bridge due to an icy roadway. While sitting in the median, an accident started in the northbound lane and ended head on into C46's buggy with C46 inside. SQ41's crew started checking for injuries when 2 additional accidents occurred in the same 100 foot area. One driver was ejected out the rear hatch of a Jeep and down a 25 foot embankment. Crews were attempting to get all the occupants out of the vehicles and into the southbound lane when a tractor trailer came through the scene at about 55 mph just missing firefighters and a van carrying 10 people. C46 and DC7 shut down I-81 from exit 16 to exit 20 both directions. I-81 Command was established in SQ41's Command Area. SQ15 staged at exit 20 and E43 staged at exit 16 to handle traffic. After Fire Police arrived and got the Interstate shut down, all units were placed in service at 6:01am.

  


Guess Its Not Trail Rated

 

Jan 9th - One person escaped injury after driving over an embankment and into a small stream at 801 LWW, Shivley Motors parking lot. SQ41 and E43 arrived at 5:40pm to find one person sitting in the auto. Crews used the winch to stabilize the vehicle then removed the driver using an attic ladder. Units cleared at 6:06pm.

 

  


MVA

 

Jan 8th - SQ41 and E43 responded to this accident at 5:45pm in the 1500 block of Johnson Rd. Units found one auto off the road with one injury.

 


First Fire of 2007

 

Jan 5th - Squad 41 responded with Co 1 to 154 S. Second St. for the house fire. Units arrived at 9:18am with fire showing. Crews found fire in the attic with extension into exposure D1. Crews opened up, vented the roof and put a quick knock on it. After some overhaul, Command 1 placed units in service at 10:39am.
