Four Hours, Six Runs
July 23rd - A Field Fire, Toyota Demo, Barn Fire, Transfer, Box Alarm, Auto Accident, Motorcycle Accident and Hose Testing kept members busy on Monday afternoon. SU44 and E45 responded to 552 Kohler Rd at 1:38pm for the brush fire. Units found about an acre of cut hay field involved. Members got a special treat when they found the field had been fertilized with......well you can figure it out. SU44 controlled the left side while E45 advanced a line to the head of the fire. ET14 was special requested to assist. Units cleared at 3:08pm. Upon returning to quarters, members were met by a Toyota test crew that was driving a Tundra towing 10,000 lbs. The group started in California and was traveling across the country showing off the new truck. After handing out gifts to the firemen, they continued on their journey. Members were back on the street at 4:18pm in T42 headed for a barn fire in Co 15's area. Command 15 found a fully involved structure with not much to salvage and placed T42 in service. E45 started on a transfer to Co 15 at 4:33pm but was diverted to 8256 Olde Scotland Rd for a MVA. T42 met E45 enroute to supply manpower. E45 cleared the MVA and continued to 15's house. In the middle of those runs at 4:44pm, SQ41 was alerted to 40 LWW for smoke coming from the church. Co 1 found a mulch fire next to the building and quickly cleared the box. Crews finally got back to the firehouse in time to respond to 976 N. Franklin St for the motorcycle accident. At 5:36pm, SQ41 and E43 arrived to find a motorcycle into the rear of a passenger car. Bystanders pointed out a dump truck about a quarter mile down the road. Apparently the driver stopped at the previous accident to check the welfare of everyone. Upon exiting the vehicle the truck's brakes "failed" and it rolled down the hill mowing over a few trees just missed a building and some autos in the driveway then ended up in a ditch. While chasing the truck the driver became injured. Crews assisted EMS with loading 2 patients before clearing at 6:12pm. What better way to end the evening than with some hose testing. E43, E45, T42, SQ41 and SU44 loaded up and headed out to test and reload 1600' of 5" hose.
Roof Removal
July 22nd - At 8pm, Adams Chief 27 came upon this MVA at the intersection of LWE and Pine Grove Rd. Chief 27 found one auto over the embankment into a stream with one trapped. SQ41 arrived and assisted Co 7 with cribbing the unstable vehicle then removed the roof.

Public Opinion Profile
July 16th - Fire Company has grown through the years. By Keith Paradise PO Staff Writer
When the Franklin Fire Company was formed in 1903 it responded to fires with hand-drawn equipment or with a Ford chassis that accommodated a hose wagon. Needless to say, they've grown since then. The company's firehouse garage now has six bays that are two deep to accommodate its nine pieces of equipment, making it the largest in Franklin County. The trucks see plenty of use. Last year the company responded to 920 incidents and has responded to 453 through June of this year. (more...)
