Ken North Does It Again!!! |

Mar 9th
-
Today,
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded a $196,800.00
Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program award to the Franklin
Fire Company. The Franklin Fire Company will need to provide 5% of
this award which will be $9,840.00.
The
Franklin Fire Company announces that this money will be used to help
them purchase new radio equipment, to be compliant with the
anxiously awaited County Communications Radio Upgrade, which was
announced to be ready in January of 2008. Receiving this funding
will allow the Franklin’s to switch over to the new system at the
time of release instead of relying on outdated equipment.
Communications is a big factor when it comes to Firefighter Safety
and accomplishing the tasks more effective on an incident scene.
When the
announcement of the radio upgrade was made by the County Department of
Emergency Services and without financial assistance such as this grant,
we were concerned how we were going to be able to make this crucial
switch.
Also, we
would like to remind the citizens and businesses of Franklin County,
that this funding will only help our fire department with this necessary
radio upgrade purchase. Your support has been and is still needed and
appreciated for our normal activities.
The Franklin
Fire Company is also actively working with the Franklin County Emergency
Services Alliance and several area fire departments in a joint grant
application for the purchase of radio equipment.
