May 2009
MVA

May 29th -
T42 was special requested to assist the Coroner with aerial photos and "recovery" around 9am. SQ41 and E43 responded to a motorcycle accident in the 1800 block of Philadelphia Ave at 2pm. Members found one rider in the roadway and assisted with packaging. T42 responded on a box alarm at 6:45pm and SQ41 ran the MVA pictured here at 9:45pm. Initial callers reported 4 injuries in the 500 block of S. Main St. but EMS transported just 1 patient.
Garage Well Off

May 24th -
E43 and E45 responded on the 8-04 box for the reported barn fire at 9:33am. Co 8 arrived to find a 30' by 60' metal garage with heavy fire inside. E43 supplied E8-2 and E45 was the water supply engine. Members assisted with knocking down the fire, forcing entry thru a roll up door and overhaul operations before returning to service at 11:13am.

Make It 10

May 21st -
Members responded to 2 Box Alarms, 2 MVA's, 2 Brush Fires, 1 Truck Fire and 3 Medicals between 5am and midnight. Co 1 and SQ41 arrived to the rear of 1928 Clinton Ave at 3:09pm to find a fence row and shed on fire. E1-2 used a 1 3/4" line to knock down the fire while SQ41 forced entry into two townhouses and confirmed no extension.
MVA With Double Entrapment

May 19th -
At 4:12pm, Sta4 units were alerted for a MVA with possible entrapment . While units were responding the address was corrected to the 6900 block of MPHS making it a 3-08 box. Capt 3 had SQ41 continue to the scene as callers reported multiple people trapped. Units arrived to find a pick up truck into the rear of a passenger car with a 4 month old infant trapped in the rear passengers side along with the driver pinned. Members from SQ3, SQ8 and SQ41 removed a door and the roof to free the occupants. Both patients were flown to a trauma center.
AFLAC

May 18th -
A Junior Member made his first rescue around 7:30pm after receiving a public service call for ducks stuck in a storm drain. A total of eight ducklings were removed.
Well Done Steaks

May 17th -
SQ41 responded on the 7-6 box for a reported house fire. Chief 7 arrived at 8178 LWE to find a gas grill caught fire and extended into the house. SQ41 assisted with opening up the exterior walls and lighting while E43 transferred to Co. 7. Units returned to service around 10pm.

Handlines and Tool Time

May 13th -
Members were kept busy this morning with a first due house fire followed by a MVA with entrapment. E43, T42 and E45 arrived in front of 79 Sunset Ave at 9:13am to find smoke pushing from the roof. E43 found fire in the basement while T42 searched and reported a partial floor collapse on the first floor. T42's roof team opened the roof and E45 laid the supply line. Crews from 7, 8, 13, 14, 17, 18 and 53 assisted with searching, venting and overhaul. As E43 and T42 were returning to quarters, SQ41 was heading to Wayne Rd and Kriner Rd for a MVA. SQ41 arrived to find a pick up truck into the side of a passenger car with one pinned. Members did a side removal and lifted the dash to extricate the patient in 19 minutes. Command 17 landed air medical at the scene as E17-2 had the LZ. SQ41 was in service at 1:23pm.

Auto Accident with Confinement

May 12th -
 Co 1 and Squad 41 were dispatched at 16:40 for a overturned vehicle in front of the Police Station. Units arrived on scene to find one vehicle had struck a parked car, landed on its side and one patient was still inside the vehicle. The Squad crew stabilized the vehicle, removed the roof, and then assisted with patient packaging. Squad 41 cleared the scene at 17:16.

Kitchen Fire and Fly Out

May 9th -
SQ41 and E43 covered incidents in opposite directions at 10pm. The Squad responded into Co 1's first due for the house fire. Units arrived at 848 Woodlawn Drive to find fire in the stove vent and cabinets. Members checked the second floor for extension and assisted with overhaul on the first. E43 headed the other direction at the same time for a motorcycle accident. Crews found one person laying in the middle of the road in the 1800 block of Philadelphia Ave. EMS transported to the hospital were a helicopter was waiting to air lift the patient to a trauma center. Both units were back at the station by 11pm.
2 Alarm House Fire

May 3rd -
At 0411, units in the Boro were alerted for a house fire at 70 N Fourth St. Squad 41 was on the initial alarm and arrived on scene to find fire showing from side Alpha and the roof eves on side Delta. The Squad crew assisted with the initial attack line and performed a search. Extension was found into the Bravo exposure and a 2nd alarm was struck bringing Truck 42 to the scene. Units operated on the scene till 0749.
