October 31st

Trick or Treat
Just Another Day....

October 29th and 30th -
Crews handled 5 runs on the 29th including 2 Box Alarms, 1 MVA, 1 AFA and 1 Medical. Sta4 responded to just 1 call on the 30th which lasted roughly 12hrs 30mins. E45, SU44 and UT44 responded at 10pm to 4208 Letterkenny Rd to assist PSP with a missing 3 year old child. Members began an immediate search of the buildings and land around it. As time went on and the search area grew, Command 44 requested additional resources to include Co 11, 18, 5, EMA, DCNR, PSP, Cumberland Co 400, Search Dogs from Bedford, a Helicopter and numerous volunteers. The child was finally located in a wooded area around 9am and was returned to his family.
Another Hillendale Run

October 26th -
Another reported house fire on Hillendale Rd proved to be less dramatic as T42 and E45 responded into Co 7's first due at 11:17am. Units arrived at 1289 Hillendale Rd to find a small fire in the kitchen. T42 shut off the utilities and set up ventilation. E45 staged then transferred to Co 7. Units cleared the box at 12:46pm. At 12:58pm, T42 was alerted on the Box Alarm in Shippensburg but was cancelled enroute.
Finishing Off The 25th

October 25th -
After battling the structure fire below, crews got a break then finished with 3 more runs in the evening. SQ41 responded to 331 W. Irva Dr. for the gas leak in a house at 8pm. E45 assisted E1-4 with a construction dumpster on fire in the 200 block of LWW at 10:10pm. While E45 was busy, E43 and T42 handled an AFA at 1280 Superior Ave at 10:19pm.
First Due Duplex Fire

October 25th -
SQ41 responded for back to back MVA's at 12:28am and 12:40am. Units found an auto on its roof with minor injuries at both accidents. At 3:36am, E45, T42 and E43 were alerted for an apartment fire with multiple entrapment. Sta4 arrived at 1653 Philadelphia Ave to find a two story duplex with fire showing from the first floor on side D. E45 entered with a 1 1/2" line and found fire in the kitchen extending into the living room and bedroom. Members put a quick knock on it. T42 searched both sides of the structure and found no entrapment. E13-1 split laid to the hydrant and pulled a back up line. E43 supplied E45. The fire was marked under control in about 15 minutes and Command 44 held Sta4 for overhaul. Sta4 cleared at 5:56am. Units from 11, 15, 17, 7,14, 52, 1, 53 and 10 also responded on the call. After a quick clean up, E45 and T42 were out for the AFA at 7:06am.
Hazardous Materials Response

October 23rd -
An argument at a bar spilled into the streets at 2am sending SQ41 to the 500 block of LWW. Units found one down in the roadway. It was initially unclear weather the person was assaulted or hit by a car. SQ41 and EMS packaged the patient as police wrestled to arrest an unruly subject. SQ41, E45, T42 and E13-1 were alerted for the Hazmat incident at 9:30pm. Units arrived to find a sprinkler activation inside a large commercial building. Command 44 meet with building reps and found water flow in a room with 3 water reactive materials. Crews shut off the sprinkler system and after researching the products, sent a team in to recon the situation. With the incident stable, Command 44 held E45 to await the clean up crew. A chemical reaction inside a drum caused a fire, blew the lid off the drum, activated the sprinkler system and sent water onto the water reactive solids. The resulting hazmat was controlled inside the building's containment system with no environmental impact.
24 Hours In Da Ville

October 22nd -
Members spent most of the day in Co 7's area. Shortly after midnight E45 got the first run for the house fire at 45 W. Main St. E7-2 found a faulty stove and held Co 7. E45 took a short transfer to 7's house. At 8:37am, SQ41 handled a school bus accident on LWE. No students were injured. E45 took a second and much longer transfer to 7's house at 4:18pm while Co 7 was committed on a barricade incident. While on the transfer, E45 assisted 7 EMS with a fall victim at the Caledonia State Park water falls. After loading the patient into the ambulance, E45 and E7-1 set up a landing zone for air medical. E45 cleared the run and returned to Co 7 at 7pm. E45 responded from Co 7 at 7:36pm along with SQ41 to the intersection of Rock Rd and Woodstock Rd for a MVA involving 2 police cruisers and a passenger car. E45 assisted EMS while SQ41 went in service. E45 returned home just before midnight.
Another Early Start

October 19th -
Sta4 ran 9 more including an all day trip to Co 9. SQ41 was out early again for the MVA at Criders Church and Edenville Rd around 6am then back to back Box Alarms at 8am and 9am. Units arrived at 647 S. Main St around 8am to find an appliance fire and reduced the assignment. Co 1 and SQ41 found smoke pushing from a two story home in the 400 block of LWW at 9am. Crews found a furnace malfunction and remained on scene for ventilation. T42 had an AFA at 12:17pm. E45 transferred to Co 18 at 12:58pm then moved to Co 9 at 1:15pm. E43 and SU44 handled a trash fire at 520 Kohler Rd around 4:30pm. E45 responded from Co 9 to 14163 Blairs Valley Rd for the illegal burn. Crews extinguished a few large piles of brush before clearing at 10:53pm. At 11:14pm,  E43, T42, E45 and SQ41 were alerted for the inside investigation of smoke. Members found smoke in the basement caused by a furnace malfunction. Command 44 held T42 for ventilation.

Squad 41 On The House

October 18th -
SQ41 was alerted at 5:36am for the house fire in Co 9's first due. Units arrived at 589 Path Valley Rd to find fire in the basement ceiling and walls. SQ41 assisted with opening up. E45 transferred to Co 18. Both units returned to service around 7am.

Fire Prevention Week

*Late Entry* October 9th -
Members spent several days this week teaching elementary students about fire safety. About 1,200 kids received a tour of a smoke filled safety trailer along with fire prevention material.

Dumpin' The House

October 17th -
Crews spent the day running Box Alarms including the fire pictured here. E45 kicked off the day with an outside investigation at 6:18am. E45 found a trash fire in the 2600 block of MPHS. SQ41 responded into Co 1's first due for a reported garage fire at 9:36am. Units found the fire out on arrival. Auto accidents at 10:28am and 10:55am sent SQ41 and E45 out the door. At 11:42am, E45, T42 and E43 were alerted for the house fire. Command 7 arrived at 1345 Hillendale Rd to find a 2 story home with fire showing and possible entrapment. Members made an aggressive interior attack and search. Crews encountered heavy fire on the second floor and attic. No victims were located and 3 handlines knocked the fire down in roughly 30 minutes. Units from Sta4, 7, 17, 8, 14, 5, 11, 2 and 15 operated until 4:19pm to extinguish the blaze. Twenty minutes after the first fire was dispatched, SQ41 left the station empty while responding with Co 1 to 248 S. 3rd St for the house fire. Units arrived at 12:13pm to find a small fire in the kitchen with minor extension and were able to clear it at 12:40pm. Just an hour later at 1:46pm, SQ41 was back out the door on the 18-4 box. Units found a chimney fire at 7370 LWW and were in service in 30 minutes.

Nine More

October 14th and 15th -
Members responded to 6 runs on the 14th and 3 on the 15th. E45 and T42 handled AFA's at 4am, 9am and 3pm. SQ41 and E45 had the MVA pictured below just before 8pm at 944 LWW. Units were dispatched for the MVA with possible cardiac arrest. Crews found 2 patients both with a pulse. Members assisted EMS and controlled hazards. E43 and E45 responded with Co 7 on the box to 39 Fifth Ave for smoke in the house. Command 7 held it with Co 7. E45 transferred to Co 7. E45 and T42 had another box at 5:29am. Sta4 arrived at 534 Warmspring Rd to find a malfunction of the heating unit and down graded the box. SQ41 and E45 responded for a MVA on I-81 at 4:14pm. E45 and T42 handled food on the stove in 30D Menno Village at 5:22pm.
MVA

October 13th -
SQ41 and E45 were dispatched for a MVA with a vehicle into a utility pole at 1034hrs. Units arrived to find a passenger vehicle had struck and sheared off a utility pole. Crew controlled hazards while EMS handled patient care. Sta4 cleared at 1048hrs.

Six On The Seventh

October 7th -
Members racked up six runs including a working fire. An accident at 4am sent SQ41 to 440 Fifth Ave. Co 1 and SQ41 found a truck off the road with an unconscious patient. SQ41 assisted EMS with bringing the victim up the embankment. At 5:46am SQ41 and E45 responded to I-81 for the MVA and at 5:51am E43 headed out on the working fire in Mont Alto. Units on I-81 found a tractor trailer vs a passenger car and assisted EMS with removing 2 patients. Units in Mont Alto found heavy fire showing from a garage with extension into the house. E43 assisted first arriving units with extinguishment and overhaul before returning to service at 8am. SQ41 responded on the cardiac arrest at 1pm. E43 handled the usual AFA at 2pm. SQ41 ran the fall victim from the second floor around 4pm. Units found a person with a head injury after falling off a balcony and requested air medical. Members assisted EMS with packaging and loading.

Fatal MVA

October 2nd -
Squad 41 responded on the MVA in the area of Kohler Rd and Grandpoint Rd around 10:30pm. Units arrived in front of 2497 Grandpoint Rd to find 1 auto into a tree with major damage to the passenger side. One person was removed from the car and Command 44 requested Air Medical to the hospital. The driver was flown to a trauma center but passed away from injuries suffered in the accident.

Public Opinion Article
Door Pop

October 1st -
Members assisted Co 1 with a MVA at LWE and 3rd Streets around 2:30pm. A full size van struck the side of a passenger car confining one person and sent the car up on the sidewalk where it hit a pedestrian. SQ41 removed one door and assisted EMS with a total of 3 patients.
