September 2009
MVA With Fire

September 21st -
SQ41 and E45 were dispatched for a MVA with fire at 4:46pm. Units arrived in front of 1180 Siloam Rd to find a pick up in the front yard and a passenger car flaming in the roadway. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and assisted EMS with packaging 2 patients.

The Big Bash

September 19th -
The 2009 Gun Bash finally came and crews from Co 12 and Station 4 work together for about 12 hours cooking, serving, cleaning up and giving away a lot of prizes. Special thanks to Co.15 and Truck 1 for standing by at Sta4.

Of course the day started with members coming across a MVA while enroute to the bash. Sta4 rolled up on an SUV into a tree in the 1600 block of Path Valley Rd. Crews assisted on the accident until Co 9 arrived then continued on.

UT44 On The MVA w/Entrapment

September 18th -
It doesn't matter if its fundraising or calls, Co 12 and Station 4 are good at working together. Crews were setting up for the 2009 Gun Bash when Co 12 was alerted for a MVA at the intersection of Routes 75 and 641. Chief 12 arrived to find a pick up truck vs a passenger car with one trapped. UT44 was in the area and assisted Co 12 with extrication. The trapped driver was flown to a trauma center.

Truck 42 on the Building Fire

September 14th -
SQ41 was backing into the firehouse after a MVA when T42 was dispatched for a building fire at 8:36pm. Co 9 units had been dispatched for an outside investigation and arrived to find a 150 x 75 foot 2 story vacant building well off. T42 set up ladder pipe operations on the A/B corner and flowed for about an hour. E45 handled a transfer assignment and both units returned around 11:30pm.
Smoke on the 8th Floor

September 11th -
Members were kept busy with 6 runs for the day including back to back runs at 0824 and 0845 then again at 1600, 1636 and 1648hrs. At 1636hrs, Communications sounded Box 1-01 for smoke coming from an apartment on the 8th floor at the United Towers. Sq 41 arrived on scene with normal conditions from the exterior, grabbed high rise packs from E1-2 and proceeded up the stairwell. Crews had to force entry into the apartment. Found food on the stove with a heavy smoke condition. Truck 1 set up ventilation in stairwell. Sq 41 returned to service at 1708hrs. While Sq41 was on the box alarm, SU 44 handled Med Local in the borough to 166 S. Main Street.

September 9th - Road Work

Kriner Rd closed at RT11 for 3 weeks
Use Wayne Rd to Kriner Rd
or
Orchard Dr to Nitterhouse Dr to Tower Rd to Kriner Rd

Loop Rd closed at RT11 for 3 weeks
Use RT11 to the other end of Loop Rd

Traffic diverted to center lane on
Route 11 at Mill Rd and Kriner Rd
 Rollover and Confinement in the Borough

September 6th -
At 1346hrs SQ41 responded with Co. 1 units to 531 Rife St for the MVA with rollover and possible entrapment. SQ41 arrived on scene and confirmed 2 autos with several parked cars involved. Found 4 occupants in a mini van that was on its driver side with all occupants only to be confined with minor injuries. SQ41 crew stabilized vehicle, removed the windshield, and removed occupants through the windshield and rear hatch. EMS then handled all patient care. SQ41 returned to service at 1417hrs.
Back to Back Fires

Sept 2nd -
SQ41 responded into Co 11's first due on back to back fires. Units were alerted at 2:18am for the apartment fire at 3589 Orrstown Rd. Chief 11 found a working fire and crews quickly contained it. As units were returning to quarters shortly after 3am, Sgt 11 found a fully involved barn fire at 7701 Creek Rd and requested a box alarm. SQ41 ran a line from E11-1 to the rear to protect exposures and worked to remove the tin walls. E45 set up a water supply. Crews from several departments worked together to contain the blaze. Sta4 units returned to service at 5am.
