Sgt Robert "Huey" Brown Awarded

The Franklin County (Pa.) Commissioners this week honored 911 operator Robert P. Brown for his service on the evening of March 21. Brown received a call from the husband of Sandra Crawford of Orlando, Fla., in which the man explained his wife had been abducted days earlier, according to the citation signed by the commissioners. The woman had temporarily escaped her abductor and contacted her husband to say she was being held in an Econo Lodge in Waynesboro, Pa. Brown said there wasn’t an Econo Lodge in Waynesboro, but contacted Waynesboro and Washington Township police to search all hotels and motels. He also contacted law enforcement in Waynesboro, Va., to ask them to search any Econo Lodge facilities, the citation states. When the searches in Pennsylvania and Virginia failed, Brown began to focus on the route number spotted by the victim. He talked to an emergency dispatcher in Virginia and learned there is an Econo Lodge in Waynesburg, Pa. Brown contacted Waynesburg police, who discovered a vehicle believed to be involved and rescued Sandra Crawford two hours after the initial call, the citation states. The commissioners thanked Brown for his dedication and professionalism. The St. Augustine (Fla.) Record reported March 23 that Orange County, Fla., authorities were investigating the incident.
