January 2010
High Waters

January 25th -
E43, T42, SQ41 responded at 1650hrs to assist Green Twp with a voluntary evacuation at 640 Mickey Inn Rd. Crews arrived and evacuated several residents out of the high water areas. Station 4 returned to service at 1849hrs.
5 Runs in 2 hours

January 25th -
As heavy rain pounded Chambersburg, Sta4 was out the door 5 times in the early morning hours. SQ41 started the day by responding to 572 LWE for smoke in the apartment just before 6am. Units arrived to find a 2 story apartment building with smoke on the second floor. Crews found no attic access, two layers of dry wall, a drop ceiling and a double roof hiding fire in the attic. After opening up, the fire was contained to a small area. While the Squad operated on the fire, Engine 43 handled a MVA just before 6am and a transfer at 6:30am. E43 and E45 responded for the water rescue on Commerce St at 7am. Units found 1 car stranded in a flooded roadway with the occupants self extricated. With all units back in quarters at 8am, E43 investigated the home at 111 Sollenberger Rd to find water entering thru the foundation. Members shut off the electricity and returned to service.
Fire Showing

January 21st -
SQ41 responded into the Boro for the reported building at 55 S. Main St. the M&T Bank. The address was quickly corrected to 559 S. Main St. E1-4 arrived at 1:43am to find fire showing from a 2 story dwelling and requested a second alarm. SQ41 Team A forced entry, advanced a line in the first floor, had heavy fire and put a knock on it. Team B searched above the fire and located fire on the second floor. T42 arrived on the second alarm and began opening up on both floors. A quick check of the basement and attic found the fire contained to the first and second floor. Units operated until 4am before return to quarters.

Bedroom Off

January 17th -
E43 and E45 ran second due on the 7-1 box at 8:04am. Units were originally dispatched for a mattress fire but on arrival Command 7 found fire showing. E43 split laid the supply line then assisted Co 7 with advancing the initial attack line. E45 picked up the hydrant. Crews found a room off and made quick work of it. Units cleared the scene at 9:31am.
Second Fire of the Day

January 11th -
SQ41 and E43 managed to squeeze in a second fire for the day just before midnight. Units were alerted on the 9 Box for a house fire at 609 Path Valley Rd. First arriving units reported smoke showing from a 2 story home. As crews were advancing the initial attack lines, SQ41 Team A began a search while Team B vented the exterior. Members encountered heavy fire conditions on the first and second floor. The primary search was negative and Team A assisted with suppression efforts while Team B assisted with opening the roof. E43 sent its crew inside and operated a line on the second floor. Crews from several departments began an extensive overhaul operation. Sta4 operated until released by Command 9 at 3am.
Triple Fatal Fire

January 11th -
E43, T42, E45 and SQ41 responded at 8:32am for the barn fire at 686 Mower Rd. The caller stated the barn exploded in flames. Units arrived to find fire showing from a 40' x 50' livestock shed. E7-2 put a line on it and E43 assisted. T42 set up on side A. Command 44 held it with Sta4, Co 7 and SQ8. Crews contained the fire to a livestock pen and hay bales. Three goats died in the fire. Units returned to service at 9:49am.
Awards Banquet

January 9th -
Members gathered on Saturday to celebrate the fire company's accomplishments over the past year.

On The Cover

January 4th -
Firefighters from Station 4 are pictured on the cover of Stat Medevac's 2010 Calendar. April and July also feature other incidents that Station 4 responded to. The pocket calendar shows E43 in the March photo. All photos were taken by Curtis Bryan.
Working Fire in Frigid Temperatures

January 2nd -
As the temperature dropped to the single digits, Sq41 was alerted at 1730hrs for the Barn Fire at 3523 Williamson Road. Duty 3 on scene with a House Fire. Working Fire Dispatch brought E43 to the scene as well. Crews operated an attack line to assist with fire extinguishment. After an extensive overhaul operation Command 3 released Station 4 at 2007hrs.
Hitting The Plug

Jan 1st -
SQ41 and Co 1 responded to 328 Hood St for a MVA, reported auto into a house. Units arrived at 1:25am to find an SUV into a fire hydrant and stone fence post. The driver started off the New Year by fleeing the scene on foot only to be caught by the police later.
