May 2010
Memorial Day Fire

May 31th -
Members started the holiday at 4:26am for a reported house fire at 375 W Main St in Fayetteville. Co 7 reported a single story home with fire showing. E45 laid out a supply line and advanced an attack line with a member from Co 7. The fire was knocked down within minutes. E43 assisted with overhaul operations. Crews remained on scene until 6:30am.
Basement Fire

May 29th -
A possible house fire was dispatched at 5:53pm sending SQ41 and E45 into Co 1's first due. Units arrived at 241 College Ave to find light smoke in the basement. SQ41 forced entry into 239 and found heavy smoke on the first floor then fire in the basement. The fire was quickly extinguished and units started opening up. Members operated for about 90 minutes before being released by Command 1.
Cruising

May 24th -
At 4:53pm, SQ41 and E45 arrived in the 2000 block of Leafmore Rd to find a PT Cruiser had cruised thru a telephone pole dropping numerous power lines down across the roadway. Crews isolated the area and investigated 1 dwelling before returning to service. SQ41 and E45 were back out the door at 10:30pm for the tractor trailer fire. E45 found fire in the trailer brakes and after confirming the fire was out placed all units in service.
Water Rescue

May 23rd -
Heavy rains dumped about 3 inches of water in just an hour or two. The result was seven runs in less than 6 hours. SQ41 started with a building collapse at 9820 Eden Dr at 4:39am. T42 was out next at 4:44am for an AFA. At 4:49am, E45 went to 1345 Twin Bridge for the water rescue. SQ41 cleared the collapse and also responded on the water rescue. Members found water rapidly over taking a camp ground. E45, SQ41 and SQ8 rescued 8 people and evacuated roughly 25 others. Several campers and vehicles were left behind. Units cleared at 6:30am. E45 then transferred to Co 18 and caught a first due box along with T42. Units arrived at 7:03am to find 5 feet of water in the basement causing some electrical problems. E45 and T42 were released at 7:31am. Back to back auto accidents where next for SQ41 and E45,  Loudon Rd at 9:47am and Interstate 81 at 10:15am.

Seven Runs No Pics

May 21st -
Members handled 7 runs but forgot to grab some pics. Runs started just after midnight with E45 on a box alarm to 4768 MPHS. Co 8 found an appliance malfunction. SQ41 had the next box alarm at 12:59pm and arrived to find smoke showing from 33 S. Federal St. Members found heavy smoke conditions caused by a gas stove fire with minor extension. SQ41 and Co 1 units opened up and vented before returning to service. At 2:44pm, SQ41 and E45 responded to the 3400 block of LWE for a MVA. Units found 2 SUV's with heavy damage and 2 patients. E45 went available in time to handle a wires call at 3:01pm. SQ41 and E45 responded to I-81 at 5:02pm for a MVA. SQ41 found 1 motorcycle with 2 patients and returned to service after assisting EMS. Just 2 minutes after clearing that MVA, SQ41 was headed to another MVA at 5:27pm. Co 18 found negative entrapment and placed the squad in service. The last run came out at 8:19pm for a vehicle fire. Co 1 and SQ41 found the fire out on arrival.

Congratulations

May 19th -
Sgt Robert Brown was awarded the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials Telecommunicator of The Year 2010 for his efforts in recovering a female that had been abducted. Thanks to Sgt Brown, she returned home unharmed.
Truck vs Pole

May 18th -
Members arrived on scene of this 1:30am accident to find a pick up sheared off a pole. Members confirmed the vehicle was not energized and assisted EMS with patient removal.
3 Thrown Out and Flown Out

May 15th -
SQ41 and Co 18 were alerted at 7:25pm for an auto accident with ejection. Units arrived in the 5000 block of Bullitt Rd with people laying in the roadway. Three people were ejected for the vehicle. SQ41 set up the landing zone for Life Net 8-1 while LifeLion flew the other 2 patients from the hospital. E43 was standing by at Co 5 when Communications dispatched a motorcycle accident on Mentzer Gap Rd at 10pm. Crews searched the area and located the patient about 500 yards from the bike. After assisting on the scene, E43 was released from the transfer.

Lightning Strike

May 14th -
SQ41 responded with Co 17 for a MVA at 2pm. Units arrived at 1130 Wayne Rd to find 2 autos  involved. SQ41 assisted with patient care. As storms pounded the area, SQ41 was alerted for the possible house fire at 3:45pm. The home owner reported a possible lightning strike and an odor of something burning. Co 1 and SQ41 found a small fire in the attic. Crews from 1, Sta4, and 17 opened up and were back in service in an hour. E45 ended the day with an AFA at 6:30pm.
LZ

May 13th -
An 8am box alarm sent T42 and SQ41 to 1071 West Gate Drive in Co 1's first due. Units found an electrical problem to be the source. Command 7 requested a landing zone for a motorcycle accident victim so at 3:21pm E45 was dispatched to the rear of 7's firehouse. Members assisted with loading the victim into LifeNet 8-1 before returning to service.
Shed Fire

May 10th -
After taking the weekend off, Sta4 handled 5 runs before 4pm including a first due fire. The day started at 1:21am with an auto accident. SQ41 and E45 arrived at 877 Edenville Rd to find one into a tree. E45 and T42 responded to the usual AFA's at 3am and 12:30pm before Sta4 and Co8 handled a HazMat on I-81. SQ41, E45 and Co 8 found a tractor trailer leaking diesel fuel at mile marker 15. Crews mitigated the leak and returned to service at 2:29pm. At 3:11pm, Communications put out the 44-09 box for a shed fire. E45, T42 and E43 arrived at 2050 Sollenberger Rd to find a 20' x 20' structure with fire showing. E45 put an inch and a half in service and had it knocked down within 10 minutes. T42 opened up and E43 supplied E45. Units were back in service at 4:06pm.
"One off in the back yard"

May 3rd and 4th -
Sta4 had another 5 runs on the 3rd then back to back runs on the 4th. SQ41 and E45 found 2 autos heavily damaged in the 2300 block of Philadelphia Ave. One person was transported by EMS. While heading back to the station, Communications dispatched Sta4 for the lawn mower fire. E45 and SQ41 arrived at 2688 Rocky Spring Rd with "one off in the back yard". E45 had it out and was back in service within 15 minutes.
Crash on 81

May 2nd -
This MVA was the first of 3 runs for the day. SQ41 and E43 responded along with Co.8 to mile marker 14 on Interstate 81 at 12:33pm. Units arrived to find a passenger car vs a pick up and trailer. Crews found minor injuries and stabilized a leaking propane cylinder before going in service.
Double Fatal Crash

April 30 and May 1st -
After 5 runs on the 30th, Sta4 responded to 1701 Sollenberger Rd for a MVA at 2:43am on the 1st. SQ41 and E43 arrived to find a passenger car into a tree with 2 people trapped. Members quickly extricated one person by removing the passengers door. As crews worked to free the driver, EMS pronounced both victims class 4. Units stood by while PSP and the Coroner performed the investigation. Sta4 cleared at 4:35am. At 4:48am, SQ41 and E43 were back out the door for another MVA. Units found 1 auto into a deer with 1 patient and were back in service within 20 minutes. After a few hours sleep SQ41 and E43 responded for a 3rd MVA. Units arrived at mm 17 on I-81 to find 2 vehicles with no injuries and cleared at 10:50am. Members responded to 2 more runs in the afternoon, making it 2 days with 5 runs.
