Recent News

Box Alarm and MVA

Sept 3rd -
Station 4 responded to a first due box alarm and a first due MVA reported with entrapment in 2 minutes. At 3:39pm, units were alerted for shrubbery on fire next to a house. Communications switched the box alarm to an operations channel and immediately dispatched a MVA with entrapment at 3:41pm. E43 had to pass through the MVA enroute to the box. Members arrived at 93 Hilltop Drive, put a quick knock on the fire and released units for the MVA. SQ41 found negative entrapment on the MVA in the 800 block of LWW.

Cut Job
Aug 29th - SQ41 and Co17 responded for the MVA in front of 1180 Falling Spring Rd at 6:02am. Units arrived to find a pick up vs a tree with the driver trapped. Command 17 requested air medical. SQ41 used the Amkus system to remove the driver's side front door and rear half door to free the patient.

Attic Off
Aug 27th - AC7 found and notified Communications of a working house fire at 235 Garfield St. SQ41, Co1 and T17 arrived at 3pm to find smoke pushing from the attic of a single family home. Crews put a line in service and made quick work of the fire. Members rescued 3 pets from home. Units were in service at 4:37pm.

Attempted Suicide

Aug 26th -
Members were alerted for suicide by hanging. SQ41 and EMS worked quickly to save the individual. The status of this person is unknown.

Industrial Accident

Aug 25th -
SQ41 responded to 2655 MPHS around noon. Members found one person dead as a result of an industrial accident. For more details use the link below.

Trailer Fire

Aug 24th -
Units from Sta4 and Co7 responded to this Tractor Trailer fire on I-81 at 6:41pm. E7-1 arrived to find the trailer and cargo well involved.

CMT Visits

Aug 23rd -
The normal Saturday night bingo was the setting for part of an upcoming episode on CMT.

Fire, Rescue and HazMat

Aug 22nd - A
t 3:27am, units from Station 4, 8 and 17 were alerted for the to I-81 for a HazMat incident. Members arrived just north of exit 16 to find a tractor trailer leaking fuel. The driver stated he lost approximately 100 gallons prior to units arriving. Crews were able to contain the leak then plug it to mitigate the situation. Command 44 placed units in service at 4:44am.

Aug 22nd -
E43, T42 and E45 responded into Co 8's first due at 3:57pm for the reported explosion at 5773 Colorado St Ext. E8-1 arrived to find smoke showing. E45 assisted Co 8 with fire on side D. Crews found a filter system burning and two hoppers blown apart. T42 set up on side D and members found fire in machinery and a large hopper on the roof. E43 sent manpower to assist on side D and the roof. Personnel from Co 8, Sta4, 17, 3 and other area companies worked for roughly 2 hours to extinguish the fire and overhaul the scene.

Aug 21st - For the third time in a week members freed someone from a tight spot. This time the patient's hand was caught in a machine. SQ41 and Co 1 were dispatched to 1490 Nitterhouse Dr at 7am. SQ41 used 2 port-a-powers to extricate the victim in 9 minutes. SQ41 and E43 responded to Falling Spring Rd and Edwards Ave for the MVA pictured below. Found two autos with wires down in the area. Units cleared at 4:45pm.

Congressman Shuster Visits

Aug 20th -
Station 4 received a visit from Congressman Shuster around 4:30pm. Shuster along with representatives from Franklin County and Chambersburg Borough presented the Franklin Fire Company with a check for $24,510. The money was awarded in a FEMA Grant.
Kids Will Be Kids

Aug 20th -
Another child's leg gets stuck. SQ41 assisted Co 1 at 3:39pm with removing a toddler's leg from a bicycle. The leg was lodged between the pedal and bike frame. Crews were able to free the child within 5 minutes.

Auto Off
Aug 17th - The fourth run of the day for Station 4 was this auto fire at 4496 Sycamore Grove Rd. Originally dispatched as a Box Alarm for the auto next to a dwelling, Sgt 44 arrived to find a passenger car well off and no exposure problems. E13-2 made quick work of it and Command 44 placed the box in service at 10:40pm

Unusual Rescue

Aug 15th -
SQ41 and E43 responded to 609 Heintzelman Ave around 7:30pm for the child stuck in a sliding board.  Crews found the child's leg stuck between the hand rail and the sliding board. A quick spread with the port-a-power and the young man was free to play again.
 

 

Bring Home The Trophies
Aug 14th - Members worked for several days getting ready for the Path Valley Parade. Their efforts paid off as Station 4 brought home Best Appearing Squad, Best Appearing Truck and Second Best Appearing Company.

Auto On Its Side

Aug 14th -
Shortly after midnight, SQ41 and E43 were alerted for this MVA at Kriner Rd and Molly Pitcher Highway. Members found two autos with one on its side. Route 11 was shut down as crews worked to get patients transported and cleared the roadway.

Shed Fire

Aug 12th -
E43 and T42 arrived at 1024 Warmspring Rd to find a small shed on fire. After some minor overhaul units returned to service at 1:17pm.

White Out in August

Aug 10th -
Storm passes through the area dumping heavy rain and large hail.  Several locations found accumulation of hail at storm drains.  Sta4 crews ran 2 light strikes from the storm.
At 1942hrs, Sta4 and Co13 were dispatched to 323 Development Ave for a dumpster fire.  E13-2 found a construction dumpster fully involved.  With the assistance of Greene Twp and CWP the fire was extinguished and units cleared at 2253hrs.

2nd Confinement in 7 hours
Aug 10th - Members were awakened at 0055 hrs for another MVA reported with entrapment at 1884 Crottlestown Rd.  Units arrived to find 1 pt confined in the drivers seat and another pt walking up the road.  Crews quickly removed the drivers door while the engine crew set up a landing zone in the field next to the scene.  Stat 12 was already in the air and landed within 10 mins.  Units cleared at 0133 hrs.

MVA with Confinement

Aug 9th -
Station 4 units and Eng 13-2 were dispatched to the parking lot of the Salem Church for an MVA.  Sgt 44 arrived to find 2 confined in a passenger car at the intersection of Salem Rd and Letterkenny Rd.  Crews quickly cribbed the vehicle and removed the drivers door. 

MVA With Confinement
Aug 3rd - SQ7 and E43 responded to the 4700 block of Cumberland Highway for a MVA at 4:50pm. Units arrived to find one auto drove up over the guardrail then rolled down a 25 foot embankment pinning one occupant inside. Members worked together to remove the driver's door, package and bring the patient up the embankment.

Thunderstorm Hits Area

Aug 2nd -
A sudden thunderstorm brought heavy rain, nickel sized hail and high winds to the area. E43 arrived in front of 1402 Brechbill Rd just after 1:30pm to find this "thing" hanging from the power lines. Members quickly cleared the call to respond to a lightning strike on a house at 1954 Philadelphia Ave. E45, T42 and E43 found some shorted electrical wiring and went in service at 2pm. E43 didn't make back to the station before getting a third run for a possible cardiac arrest on LWW.

2008 JR FF Academy

Aug 2nd -
Six Members of the Franklin Fire Company graduated from the 2008 Junior Firefighter Academy today. The week long academy covered basic firefighting skills, teamwork and accountability.

Rollover

July 31st -
Units arrived in front of 3493 Sycamore Grove Rd to find this auto on its roof. Members assisted EMS. SQ41 and E43 returned to service at 3:18pm. SQ41 was right back out the door at 3:57pm and again at 4:53pm for a box alarm and a cardiac arrest.

MVA
July 26th - SQ41 and E43 responded to this MVA in the 1200 block of LWE. Members found a ruptured gas tank and two injuries. Crews controlled the gasoline spill then returned to service at 8:41am.
Another Grant

July 26th -
Crews returned from two fires over night and opened the paper to find out that Station 4 has been awarded another FEMA grant. This time the money will be used to put Chevron striping on all the apparatus.

Back To Back Burners

July 26th -
Units were alerted on the 7-3 box at 1:13am for a house fire address unknown. Co 7 found an abandond house well off at 4026 White Church Rd. SQ41 and E43 sent members to the scene along with Company 7, 8, 17, 52 and 53. Crews worked together to bring the blaze under control and remained on scene until 4:15am overhauling the structure. Once under control Command 7 released E43. Shortly after returning to quarters, Communications dispatched Co 1, E43 and T17 for the auto fire next to the building at 240 Burkhart Ave. At 3:55am, AC1-5 reported an auto fully involved two feet from the home. E43 quickly put a line on it. The home and neighboring autos received only minor heat damage. Members returned from the second box at 4:43am.

Auto Into The House
July 25th - SQ41 responded along with Co 18 for the MVA at 2:20am. Co 18 arrived at 3820 LWW with a minivan into the side of a single family home. Members assisted with shoring up the home and removing the vehicle. SQ41 returned to service at 3:30am.

Lightning Strike

July 23rd -
Lightning struck a house at 812 Burdock Ct  sparking a fire in the wall and floor. E43 and T42 arrived on 2:50am to find a hole in the siding and smoke in the basement. Members tracked down the fire and contained it to small area.

Three Injured In MVA
July 22nd - AC48 came upon this MVA on Walker Rd at I-81 around 2pm and quickly requested Fire and EMS. SQ41 and E43 arrived to find two pick ups involved. The impact was hard enough to flip one truck completely over the guardrail, landing it just inches away from rolling down a 25 foot embankment and onto I-81. Members assisted EMS with moving patients up the embankment and over the guardrail. Two ambulances from Co 7, one from Co 1 and ALS from Co 100 transported the patients.

Apartment Off In Waynesboro
July 21st - Truck 42 responded into the Borough Of Waynesboro to assist with an apartment fire. Co 2 units arrived shortly before 3pm to find a fire in the rear of 82 West Main St. Truck 42's "Auxiliary Driver" threw ladders on side A while the crew checked exposure D1 then relieved crews on Division 2 and opened up.

Won't You Be My Neighbor

July 18th -
Members watch as four people are handcuffed in the station parking lot during a "disagreement".

MVA

July 18th -
The 600 block of South Second St was the scene of this 4pm accident. The SUV drove up an embankment through a few yards then launched off a retaining wall across the street head on into a utility pole. SQ41 assisted Co 1 units with the class 1 trauma patient and washing down "fluids".

They Come In Three's
July 15th - Station 4 responded to a third fire in just two days. This time it was Co 8's first due. Shortly after 5pm, E43 and T42 were alerted for the building fire with an explosion at 5773 Colorado St. First arriving units from 8 and 17 reported smoke coming from the roof. Crews found fire in a second floor machine room and hopper. E43 picked up 17's line and T42 staged. Both units sent manpower to the scene to assist with opening up and accessing remaining hot spots.

Second Fire Of The Day

July 14th -
T42 responded around 3:30pm on the 9-02 box for a shed fire that extended into a mobile home. Co 9 arrived at 11915 Punch Bowl Rd to find heavy fire showing in both the shed and home. T42 assisted crews with hooking walls and removing debris. Command 9 released T42 at 5pm.

Finally

July 14th -
After getting some calls on the 13th, the runs continued after midnight. E43, T42, E45 and UT44 responded on the remote 18-13 box for the house fire. E18-1 arrived at 2328 Community Center Drive around 1am with heavy fire showing from a single story dwelling. Crews put a quick knock on it saving most of the home. E43 supplied E18-1 and assisted with interior operations. T42 set up on side A and opened the roof. E45 and UT44 sent manpower to the scene for overhaul. E45 was released about 3am and just backed into the firehouse when Station 4 was alerted for the MVA on I-81 near mm14. SQ41 arrived at 3:17am, confirmed one auto off the highway, one patient with minor injuries and went in service.  E43 and T42 cleared the house fire at 3:45am.

Auto Hit By Lightning

July 13th -
After 10 days of AFA's and Box Alarms that were nothing, members caught 5 runs including a strange auto fire. Station 4 responded at 3:09pm to the 3400 block of Letterkenny Rd for a MVA. SQ41 and E43 found 1 SUV lost control in the heavy rain, slammed into an embankment injuring two people. At 3:31pm, SQ41 and E43 were alerted for the auto fire. Units arrived on I-81 at exit 17 to find a passenger car struck by lightning while traveling at 70mph. The lightning hit the antenna, melting it then ignited the electrical wiring in the engine compartment. Crews used a dry chem to extinguish the fire then went in service. SQ41 responded to assist EMS with lifting at 3:51pm. E43 and T42 handled a food on the stove run at 1500 Northfield Dr around 5:30pm. A reported apartment fire sent E43, T42 and E45 to 2488 Falling Spring Rd at 6:30pm. Members arrived to find a small fire in the kitchen with a burn victim. Command 17 held it with Co 17 and EMS.


NOTE: The battery of this Chrysler was located in the trunk under the floor next to the spare tire.
